Morris Dancing

Today Mr Holt organised and taught  Morris Dancing to all the children in school.  The children, knowing Mr Holt, were not alarmed by his traditional costume, in fact, this added to the general air of excitement.
Making the most of the beautiful weather, the event was held outside on the playground.
The children were taught a number of moves and sequences, increasing in complexity as the morning progressed.  The older children used hazel sticks as part of their dance.  Even the most reluctant of dancers could not resist Mr Holt's enthusiasm and there were sounds of disappointment as each session came to a close.

Thank you again Mr Holt for all your time and effort spent organising today and the obvious effort you put into our Sport's week theme.

KS2 Archery Experience

As if this morning's excitement wasn't enough, this afternoon, KS2 were introduced to archery by Andy Gardiner from Saxmundham Middle school, with the help of Mr Holt.
Thank you Andy for a very enjoyable afternoon.  We really appreciate your support.
Sport's week continues tomorrow with Morris Dancing.  Watch this space...

Race for Life 2012

As the highlight of Sport's Week 2012, the whole school (children, staff and some very hardy parents) took part in the Race for Life raising money for Cancer Research UK.  This is a charity that is very close to many people as lives have been affected by this devastating disease.   It is for this reason that the perseverance and  good cheer seen on the faces of all this morning was so touching.

Mrs Taylor set the standard at the front of the girl's race followed by all 90 children.  All ran 25 laps of the school field (5 km) which was a massive achievement raising in excess of £1200.

I found it incredibly difficult to choose from the lovely photos  taken by Mrs Gill for this blog, so decided to try something new and insert a slideshow.
Hopefully this will allow you to see all of our wonderful children, staff and parents working very hard.

It is days like this that really show what a special place Kelsale CEVCP is.  A huge thank you to Mrs Ward for organising, parents for supporting, TA's for running and organising and our wonderful children for just keeping those legs moving and making us all very proud. Group Hug!

Chick update!

Mrs Ward's class have been looking after an incubator containing hen's eggs in their room for the past 2 weeks.  Today, Andy and Lucy came into class with their egg lamp to see if they could see any sign of occupied eggs...with success.  4 eggs look very promising with 2 other possibles.  The children have been studying the life cycle of a chick and watching videos of hatching chicks.  Hopefully Sunday or Monday of next week, we should see some bundles of fluff of our own.  Watch this space.

Erin-Lea Murphy Dance Taster sessions with KS1

This afternoon, Erin, from the Erin-Lea Murphy School of Dance, came into school to work with KS1.  Mrs Ward's class chose to work on Some Disco moves, while Miss Bicker's class opted for Hip Hop.  The thumping music and giggling could be heard from all corners of the school as the children (and adults) busted some moves!

Sorry Mrs Ward and Miss Bickers.  It had to be done!

Lots more fun, all as part of Sport's week.

KS2 Swimming Gala 2012

This morning, both KS2 classes took part in their swimming galas.  Each was well attended by parent and other family members and friends.  The children worked very hard, always eager for the opportunity to show off how much they have improved during the year.
Another sunny, beautiful day and hopefully the first of many as we continue to work together in Sport's Week.

KS1 Swimming Gala 2012

This afternoon all KS1 children took part in a swimming gala to open Sports week.  Parents were invited to attend and shout encouragement to all children as they took part in a number of swimming/water confidence races.  Points were awarded to the children in 1st, 2nd and 3rd places as well as points for those giving 100% effort and most improved.  All points are converted into stars and count towards final tally for this years sports day and  colour team cup at the end of the school year.  Results will not be announced until sports afternoon on 13th July.  Here is a small selection of photos from the afternoons fun.

KS2 swimming galas will take place to0morrow morning, weather permitting.  Parents please come and support your children.  For more information on other Sport's week activities, see whiteboard.

Year 3 camping trip- The ones the teachers don't want you to see...

We are currently packing up after a lovely cooked breakfast.  A good nights sleep was had by all.

Just to finish off, a series of photos that didn't make it in the original blogs... you'll see why!

A huge thank you to all our wonderful children who have made this trip just amazing with their fabulous behaviour and wicked sense of humour! Huge thank you to both Adrian and Lucy for giving up their time, sleep and love to make sure we enjoyed ourselves and ate well.  Looking forward to many more trips.

Any questions...ask the children!

Year 3 Camping Trip Day 2 Update...again!

The fun never stops here!  After a superb BBQ tea tonight, we celebrated a certain young man's birthday with a lovely chocolate cake made by Lucy.  Candles were blown out and the birthday boy handed pieces of cake out to all.  It was beautiful!

We are rounding off the day with Andy and the rest of the family sea fishing on what is turning out to be a chilling but incredibly enjoyable evening.  Night, night.

Year 3 Camping Day two-Update

As if we hadn't done enough, some of the more artistic members of the group went down to the beach to create some 'Big Art'.

Year 3 Camping Trip- Day two

After a fairly early start (!), and a warm cup of milk or a lovely cup of tea, we made our breakfast and got ourselves ready for the day.  The girls set about organising a hairdressing salon and made sure they looked their best for their 'Mystery' day out.

We made our packed lunches and set off along the beach to an unknown destination.  We had a lovely walk with the sun out and a lovely calm sea washing up on the shore.

We finally arrived in Thorpeness for our first surprise, a lovely ice-cream.

Mrs Taylor gave each table a map which the children soon realised was of the mere, revealing our final surprise, a lovely boat trip.  We Mrs Taylor, Mrs Mansell, Adrian and Lucy at the helm and some budding seamen at the rudder, we set of to explore.

After lunch on the beach, we made our way back to camp and settled down for a snack and drink before practicing our circus skills.

All this, and it's only 4 o'clock.  Hopefully more to add later, but right now, I spy Lucy making a chocolate cake, and she may need a taster...

Year 3 Camping Trip- Day One

Trying to create this blog post has just highlighted to us how much we have actually squeezed into one day.

On arrival, the children (and some adults) ran straight to the low ropes course while the other adults unloaded the cars and packed things away.  We then went on a tour of the site and raised our Kelsale School flag.

Wen then went for our first explore along the beach.  It was a little blustery but there were lots of treasures to be found, including huge numbers of very pretty snails.  Some of these were adopted by the children and brought back to the centre for an impromptu snail race.  Both Willy and Winky performed particularly well but, unfortunately, Winky plummeted into the bushes and has not been seen since.

To take full advantage of the weather, we followed this with a kite making session.  We took a range of materials, designed, made and then flew our kites.  They had varying success but it was excellent fun.

We then put up our tents in the camp site...

and had dinner, spag bol cooked by Lucy with a few helpers.  We all had at least double helpings and are now preparing the campfire for a lovely end to a lovely first day.  Fabulous behaviour from all the children.  All happy and health and very full!

Kelsale-cum-Carlton Diamond Jubilee Celebrations

On Saturday 2nd June, 2012, a selection of princesses, queens, kings, princes, soldiers and even a corgi congregated outside the school ready for the fancy dress procession down to the recreation ground to take part in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebration.  Events were organised by the Parish Council.
The parade left the school grounds at 1pm, lead by two horses and riders.

The children's fancy dress was judged on arrival and prized given for the best costumes as well as for the winners of the Queen's Portrait competition. A prize was also given to the winner of the adult fancy dress competition, won by Miss Dempsey.  The prizes were awarded by Michael Marson.

There were many events and attractions including football matches, judo demonstration and maypole dancing.

The event was very well attended and a great time was had by all.  .
