Eggstreme sports 2013 was once again a huge success. A combination of canoeing, skiing zip wiring, catapulting and parachuting meant that some of our elaborately decorated eggs did not make it through to the end of the afternoon. Despite the bitterly cold weather, a number of parents arrived to watch the eggs compete. Winners were announced in each of the sports and prizes awarded.
We were surprised towards the end of the afternoon with a phone call from the Easter bunny who had heard that all the children had been working hard and collaborated well together. It seems the bunny had hidden some bundles of eggs around the school playground. The children eggcitedly (!) raced to find them.
A huge thank you to all those who supported the event and another enormous thank you and well done to our amazing pupils.

Mothering Sunday Service 2013
A foggy morning did not deter our, now much larger, school heading off towards the village church with staff, parents and other family members and friends.
Our 'Mothers's are amazing' service consisted of poems and songs written and performed by the children all giving thanks to our wonderful Mum's. This was followed by some information from Rev, Andy on inspirational Mums from around the world. A last prayer and we set off back to school for play (and a lovely cup of tea for the adults. Despite a few minor hiccups with a stuck- in- the-mud car, all arrived safely back to school.

I was just about to make a start on the photos and videos from today's events. when it occurred to me that one year ago, I posted the very first Kelsale CEVCP blog post covering the events of The Mothering Sunday Service.
In the last year, we have posted 56 posts (that is more than 1 exciting event per week) and I can't begin to even imagine how many photos have been taken!

Victorian Day
Kelsale school welcomed another exciting visitor into lessons today. Mr Alan Murphy, a 'Victorian Headmaster' arrived early this morning with his equipment to set up a Victorian classroom.
The day begun with an assembly with Mr Murphy as he demonstrated the various ways a Victorian teacher may have maintained control over his class and corrected the behaviour of disruptive children.
Years 3 and 4 then dressed up in typical costume for the period and spent the morning in the Victorian school.
The children were encouraged to bring in a traditional school child's lunch (Big thank you to all parents who took the time to provide this) consisting of bread, cheese and an apple. Many of the lunches were wrapped in tea towels and brown paper. Lunch time for KS2 looked amazing.
In the afternoon, it was the turn of Years 5 and 6.
They dressed in the traditional costumes and filled into the hall, girls on one side, boys on the other.
The had lessons in each of the four 'R' s:
Reading
wRiting
aRthimetic
Religion
They used sand in tray's, slates and stylus, ink and pens. They had to recite tables by rote and calculated using farthings, pounds, shillings and pence.
After lessons, the children had the opportunity to play with some traditional Victorian games: Hoopla, pick up sticks, spinning tops, jacks, flip books, cup and ball and so on.
We would like to thanks Mr Murphy for the fantastic educational experience as we all learnt a great deal. A big thank you to all the parents who supported the events and to Miss Coppens-Browne for organising the day. A fabulous time was had by all.
